Hi! I am Shuran Zheng. I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Harvard University, and was a postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University and a Student Researcher in the Market Algorithms Group at Google Research NYC.
My current research focuses on data-centric AI and deep learning theory. I study how data shapes the behavior and capabilities of modern learning systems, especially large foundation models.
My research has two main branches. The first develops theoretical tools for understanding the success of foundation models from a data perspective. The second develops methods for improving data with theoretical guarantees. Current topics include:
- data scaling laws and information-theoretic methods for deep learning;
- data attribution, data valuation, and data mixing;
- robotics data and data-improvement methods for embodied AI.
I am looking for self-motivated PhD students at Tsinghua University. Undergraduate students at THU interested in the data aspect of AI are also welcome to reach out.
